Estate / Collection: Collection of a New York Surveyor

[ST. PAUL'S CHURCH]
Early manuscript survey with depiction of St. Paul's Churchyard.
Manuscript survey map in ink with gray wash on paper, unsigned by the surveyor. The map is backed. 27 1/2 x 19 inches (70 x 50 cm). Soiling and staining, tears, later markings within the image.

An interesting map showing an early layout of St. Paul's Church, built 1766, with Lumber, later known as Lombard but ultimately named Trinity Place behind. The map shows First Street, previously known and soon after again as Greenwich Street, (the suggested name change around 1800 did not stick). Similarly, Second and Third Streets shown here became Washington and West Street. The land around a large slip into the Hudson is owned by Nicholas Roosevelt.

Sold for $281
Estimated at $400 - $600
