A small Romare Bearden archive, including correspondence etc. to Miss Jenny Peloso at the Bank of Commerce, Long Island City. Most 1985-6, with six autograph notes signed, five with original envelopes (all signed R.B., two with small drawings); a typed letter signed Romare B; a typed air letter form (with holograph corrections) signed Romare; an autograph postcard similarly signed; a 1977 catalogue inscribed Romare Bearden; two magazines signed by Bearden; a group of six cards, some with personal notes, from Nanette Bearden; two books inscribed by her; and a small group of materials pertaining to Romare Bearden's obsequies.
Bearden and his wife clearly had a cordial relationship with this bank employee (a photograph of the two together is included), and the letters are engaging and amusing. Autograph material relating to the great African-American painter is uncommon at auction.
