An 1817 copy of a 1718 deed map of Wall Street. Manuscript map in ink and colors on paper. This is City Surveyor Stephen Ludlum's copy of the a 1718 survey map made at the time of a division of lands along Wall Street between Col. Abraham DePeyster and Samuel Bayard. The map is backed. 12 1/2 x 30 inches (32 x 76 cm). Loss to left edge affecting border, dust soiling, marginal chips.

Vividly colored in orange, pink and lavender, this 1817 map re-creates the 1718 exchange of lands at Wall Street and Broad between two important early New Yorkers: Abraham DePeyster and Samuel Bayard. Bounded by William Street to the east, the map is centered on the intersection of Wall Street and Broad with the footprint of the original City Hall depicted. Kip Street was the original name of Nassau Street. In 1718, land was also sold to a congregation of Presbyterians and that lot is pictured in the lavender area at left.
