Comprising: BUCHANAN, JAMES. Autograph note signed as President. Washington: 1 September 1858. One page note to the three man Committee of Invitation of the "Kentucky State Agricultural Society", with 9 lines of the explanation for his regret crossed out, signed in full "James Buchanan", 7 1/2 x 5 3/4 inches, fine; CLEVELAND, GROVER. Autograph letter signed as President. Washington: 18 February 1886. 1/2 page on folded sheet of Executive Mansion stationery, the letter to a Lily M Laughton (daughter of a wealthy Philadelphia family), apologizing for not attending "the Charity Ball ... the features of which were so seductively set forth in your note...", large paper repair to signed leaf; FILLMORE, MILLARD. Autograph letter signed, 1854, to Captain H.W. Benham thanking him for "the additional maps of the last survey", unevenly toned, brittle and with short splits; HARRISON, BENJAMIN. Check signed, 1880, drawing $25 on the Fletcher & Sharpes bank at Indianapolis, fine; TAFT, WILLIAM HOWARD. Three typed letters signed as President, 1909, 1911 & 1912, each on White House stationery, the first thanking writer William Winter for a gift of a book of poetry, signature smudged, the second to the Governor of Texas transmitting correspondence, a few marks, and the third acknowledging a letter, slight fade; and HOOVER, HERBERT. Typed letter signed as President, 1931, on White House stationery, a letter of thanks, staple holes, else fine. The lot 8 items.
