Photograph inscribed, 8 x 10 inches (25 x 21 cm) "To Irving from Irving Berlin" showing Berlin with Major General Irving J. Phillipson on the set of This is the Army, Berlin's musical for the U.S. military. Slight surface defects to emulsion, the verso laid down to the mat with tape.
Berlin auditioned his 1942 patriotic Broadway musical revue at the request of Phillipson, to whom this photograph is inscribed. Both the musical, and the 1943 film based on it (which starred Ronald Reagan) were successes.
