One of 50 copies, though none were issued in the apparent year of publication, as the illustrations were never completed. This is one of 27 copies, with a suite of five experimental engravings by John Buckland Wright that do not appear in the book, that were issued under the aegis of the Golden Cockerel Press in 1956. Original cream sheepskin tooled to a Buckland Wright design, with original slipcase and sleeve. 11 1/2 inches (28 cm), top edge gilt. 12 ff., text in French, illustrated with collotype reproductions after wash drawings by Buckland Wright, as prepared for the 1956 Golden Cockerel edition. Bookplate, some wear to case and sleeve, binding slightly toned.
The genesis of this book is described in a printed note by Mary Buckland Wright in the accompanying sleeve of plates. This was to have been the third of the J.B.W. Editions, but only the text was prepared in 1935. It remained incomplete until issued by the Golden Cockerel Press at the time of publication of their own edition.
