[MORGAN, JOHN PIERPONT]
Four menus, printed on card, for meetings of the New York Farmers. Various dates, 1887-1904. Two are pencil-signed by the attendees. One bears 36 signatures including J. P. Morgan, John Jay, James Otis, and a host of other financiers and industrialists. A second has 28 signatures, and does not include Morgan. The two remaining menus are unsigned. 7 1/2 inches (19 cm). The two signed menus (1887 and 1888) have separated at the fold, and there is some minor soiling to all.
The New York Farmers, despite the plebeian connotations of the name, consisted largely of the wealthiest men in New York, many of whom signed these menus.
