Estate / Collection: Collection of a New York Surveyor

[CORNING, AMOS]. Map of part of the Estate belonging to the Heirs of ANT[hony]Y Lispenard Decd. Situate to the South Ward of Canal Street New York.
Manuscript map in ink and colors on paper, with "Copy'd from a Map of the Recent Improvement By Amos Corning, City Surveyor" in ink below the title. 21 x 30 inches (54 x 75 cm). The map backed. Some wear and small losses to the extremities, tears, stains, good condition overall.

A very attractive map of lands in the Estate of Anthony Lispenard (1739-1806), showing the intersection of Canal Street and Broadway. Most names on the streets remain the same today, except Canal-in-Chapel Street, later made an extension of Church Street, and Sugar Loaf Street, which would be named for Benjamin Franklin in 1816.
