[JOSEPHINE BAKER]
ANDRE-CHARLES CARON. Josephine (Baker) Bal Negre.
Paris: M. Ducelier, 1927. Lithographed poster, mounted to linen. 31 1/2 x 25 1/4in (80 x 64 cm). Some staining across the top of the image and in the margin, a scratch near the letter "B", otherwise an attractive example.

Caron's poster depicting Josephine Baker dancing in a grass skirt (in actuality a banana skirt) with her partner Joe Alex at the Bal Negré in Paris is one of the most iconic images of the period. While controversial, Baker's performances in Paris in 1927 were legendary and caused a sensation in the city. The poster is one of the best of the Jazz age.
