Russian Silver-Gilt Triptych Icon
Dmitri Smirnov, Moscow, 1908-1917
Rectangular, with an arched upper section surmounted by a cross and scrolling foliage, the arched pediment above two doors repoussé and chased with crosses and Art Nouveau flowers, opening to an arcaded central panel depicting the Mother of God and Christ Child enthroned, between two columns, flanked by two arcaded panels depicting St. Nicholas the Wonderworker on the right and St. Panteleimon on the left, each within borders repoussé and chased with Art Nouveau flowers. Height 5 1/2 inches (14 cm), width opened 6 inches (15.2 cm).

A nearly identical silver-gilt triptych icon by Dmitri Smirnov was sold Christie's, Geneva, November 17, 1992, lot 493.

In good condition. Light surface wear to silver. Paintings show signs of age, with old surface and wear and color consistent with age.
