Russian Gem-Set Silver-Gilt and Cloisonné Enamel Icon of Christ Pantocrator
Ovchinnikov, overstriking the workmaster's mark AO, Moscow, 1899-1908
Rectangular, depicted half-length, raising his right hand in a blessing and holding the open Gospels in his left, the riza with wirework scrolls on a red enamel ground, the halo with panels of varicolored shaded flowers and foliage, set with cabochon garnets and other hardstones, within a seed pearl border, with pierced shaded varicolored foliate rays set with cabochon garnets and pink and green tourmalines, the tsata similarly decorated and set with a cabochon garnet and other hardstones, all within a frame of varicolored shaded flower blossoms and green pellets with gold paillons, the borders enameled with varicolored geometric motifs, the frame with additional later spurious hallmarks. Height 10 7/8 inches (27.6 cm), width 9 inches (22.9 cm).

In good condition. Enameled flowers along border extremely fine quality and in good condition. Losses to enamel on tsata and crown. Wear to surface of painting of icon and rubbing from metal elements. Top of frame slightly bent. With additional later spurious hallmark.
