Vienna: Friedrich Schreiber, 1873. Contemporary Viennese binding of black morocco gilt by Rosenberg (signed in gilt on the blue silk of the front turn-in), upper cover with a central metal inlay of the Austrian arms and the Kuenringer arms surmounted by the royal crown, spine in six compartments bordered in gold, wide gilt-stamped cover borders and simple fillets, blue silk endsheets and gilt ornamental inner dentelles, protected by a clamshell case. 16 3/4 x 13 1/4 inches (43 x 34 cm); chromolithographic title page, three chromolithographic illustrations, and fourteen plates of Westmeyer's musical score, each within a different chromolithographic border, all printed on heavy card. Light wear, some minor foxing internally; Together with HEYDA, MAX. Prinz Ernst August Marsch von ... Kapellmeister im k.u.k. Infanterie Regiment No. 42. Leipzig: Roder, n.d. 1920s. Cream morocco folder by Denzler and Weiss of Vienna, with brass and silver furniture, orange silk endleaves. 13 3/8 x 10 1/2 inches (34.5 x 26.5 cm); calligraphic presentation leaf offering the March to Ernst August, the Duke of Brunswick and Cumberland. Light wear, some toning.

Two interesting presentation bindings prepared by and for Austrian nobility. The first work was issued in a few copies by Franz Joseph I of Austria in this deluxe format, for distribution to various European dignitaries. The arms were customized to reflect the recipient, as here. The second work is presumably dated before 1917, when Prince Ernst August's title as Duke of Cumberland was suspended because of his participation on the German side during World War I.
