Full red morocco, gilt arms of Louise-Françoise de Bourbon (1673-1743), gilt rules and ornaments, spine titled in gilt, all edges gilt. 6 1/2 x 3 5/8 inches (16.5 x 9.25 cm); [20], 328 pp. Light rubbing and wear, front joint starting, front hinge cracked, contents lightly toned and with pale spots throughout, leather library label of Cortland F. Bishop. An eighteenth-century study on men, with the arms of Princesse Louise-Françoise de Bourbon, Louis XIV and the Marquise de Montespan's daughter. The Mademoiselle de Nantes, as she was known, had a magnificent collection of books and artworks at her Paris residence, the Palais Bourbon. Her library was particularly renowned for the quality of its bindings, many of which were executed by Derome and Padeloup. (Olivier, Reliures Armoriées, pl. 2628).
