MONET, CLAUDE
Autograph letter signed to Gustave Geoffroy
, Giverny, Dec[ember] 4 [18]91. Two conjugate pages (verso blank), about twenty lines, written in Monet's characteristic purple ink, together with the original envelope addressed in his hand. 7 x 8 1/2 inches overall (17.5 x 21.5 cm). Fine condition. The letter and envelope are framed with an image of Monet.
Written to the influential art critic and author, who was a close friend, a champion of Monet's art and ultimately his biographer, this letter notifies Geoffroy that he will arrive at the Gare St. Lazare, on a trip to Paris to see Johann Jongkind, (who been a strong influence to him in the his early years). He first met the Dutch artist in 1862). Monet proposes that the three will have lunch together.
