RARE CHINESE EXPORT FAMILLE ROSE PORCELAIN FIVE-PIECE 'PRONK' GARNITURE
Circa 1740
Height of beakers 11 1/4 inches (28.5 cm); height of bottle vases 11 3/16 inches (28.4 cm)

Comprising two beakers and three bottle vases, each boldly enameled on both sides with a pink-breasted, long tailed parrot, or macaw, grasping cherries while perched on a swing suspended from a shaped cluster.

CONDITION:
Hair crack in one baluster-form vase, approximately 2 inches from rim, visible mainly on interior; one very small shallow chip to lip to rim of vase with flared mouth, rubbing to gilding throughout

Although the design has been traditionally attributed to the design workshop of Cornelius Pronk and his name has been considered part of the palette's descriptive title, the design probably originated at Meissen.
