Crushed green morocco by Chambolle-Duru, gilt ruled boards, gilt lettered and ornamented spine with five raised bands, all edges gilt, gilt dentelles, decoratively gilt stamped red morocco doublures, embroidered silk endpapers, marbled paper flyleaves, original wrappers bound in, with custom marbled paper and green morocco leather slipcases. 10 1/4 x 7 3/8 inches (26 x 18.5 cm); Vol I: xxxii, [1]-386 pp., Vol II: [387]-788 pp., with numerous plates reproducing engravings, on a variety of paper stocks, some folding, some printed in sanguine or in color, some tipped onto mounts. Spine leather faded to brown, short superficial crack in leather along the front joint of volume II, boards slightly bowed, some cracks and wear to slipcases along edges.
