Albert Paley Steel and Glass Dragon's Back Table
Signed and dated 1998 to base. Height 30 inches, diameter 61 inches.
Albert Paley (b. 1944) is an American designer and sculptor who began his career designing jewelry before a commission for the "Portal Gates" at the Smithsonian's Renwick Gallery in 1974 led him to expand his scope of work into much larger creations. The twisting metal base of this table is characteristic of Paley's work that gives a sense of organic movement to an otherwise heavy piece. Viewed in the round each angle presents a unique aspect of the artist's vision.
