Russian Neoclassical Giltwood Bergère
Circa 1800
The padded U-shaped backrest and sides carved with feather motifs and a central plume, centering a bowfronted seat, the rails hung with drapery swags, raised on feathered legs ending in claw and ball feet. Height of backrest 27 inches (68.6 cm), width 26 inches (66 cm), width of seat 21 inches (53.3 cm), depth of seat 21 inches (53.3 cm).

Beautiful quality, wonderful carving; later gilding, now with losses and chips; the swagged draperies to the apron reattached; numerous restorations to legs; several breakages to swags; minor worming; back two legs regilded and appear to be original, but impossible to determined because of restoration; replacements to some of the beaded molding and scrolling flower heads.
