French Art Deco Eight Day Quarter Chiming Clock
Cartier, circa 1935
The spinach jade case trimmed with blue enamel and 18 kt. gold, enclosing a dial brushed with silver/cream guilloche, the moonphase surrounded by the ivory enameled gold chapter ring with Roman numerals and gold and black enameled hands, above three subsidiary dials displaying the day of the week, alarm setting and numerical date of the month, signed Cartier and inscribed France, the brass movement signed Cartier, numbered 2577 and inscribed Made in France, with key, in a fitted leather box, signed Cartier. Height 6 3/8 inches, width 4 1/2 inches, depth 3 13/16 inches.

clock case: appears to be in good condition, including the jade, gold mounts, glass and enamel elements; gold mount stamped with gold hallmark and also stamped 1930 on the right rear side of the base; when the rear door is open, the intrior backplate is inscribed in script: Cartier and 2577, perhaps a registry number; winding key accompanies the lot, as does the original fitted Cartier case, which does not close properly when the clock is placed inside for storage; leather box worn, damage to strap.
