NEW YORK, NY – A highlight of the Important Jewelry auction on Thursday, December 15, 2022 is a rare and important Patek Philippe Reference 1518 gentleman's yellow gold 'Perpetual Calendar Moonphase' chronograph wristwatch.
During the years 1941-1954, Patek Philippe produced 281 examples of Reference no. 1518 with 215 examples in 18 kt. yellow gold, 58 in rose gold and 4 examples known to date in stainless steel. This was the world's first wristwatch to be powered by a serially produced perpetual calendar chronograph. Before Patek Philippe achieved the engineering feat of releasing this in a wristwatch for, this was only possible in a larger format as a pocket watch.
