PALM BEACH, FL -- Doyle’s Senior Jewelry and Watch Specialist Kevin Zavian, our Florida Regional Representative Collin Albertsson and I were thrilled to attend the opening night of the glamorous Palm Beach Jewelry, Art & Antique Show at the Palm Beach Convention Center. It was a star-studded evening of opulent jewels, fine art ranging from the whimsical to the seriously important, elaborate silver objets and beautifully colored Art Nouveau glass.
So much jewelry, all dazzling to the eye. I couldn't resist trying on a Bulgari Trombino ring centering an elongated cut-cornered emerald-cut diamond weighing 10.11 carats, G color, VS2 clarity. So chic, yet so comfortable, I didn’t want to take it off. Dramatically different was an exotic Zolotas 22 kt. gold bib necklace highlighted by a scrolled motif reminiscent of Alexander Calder silver jewelry.
What woman wouldn’t love to wear a David Webb gold ‘Taurus’ cuff bangle, so bold, a real conversation piece. 1970s jewelry has become all the rage. A Cartier gold, mother-of-pearl and lapis pendant would look fabulous on a white T-shirt, and so would a Van Cleef & Arpels gold, coral and green chrysoprase necklace, which can also be worn as a pair of bracelets.
Vitrines were chock full of David Webb, Van Cleef & Arpels, Boucheron and Cartier, to name a few. The over-the-top extravagance and refinement was intoxicating, a true privilege to see up close.
There were so many more. This is just a tempting taste of the stunning jewelry that represents the artistry of the distinguished makers who have had such an impact on jewelry design, and who continue to inspire and delight all of us at Doyle.
