JOHN LENNON (1940-1980) In His Own Write.
London: Jonathan Cape, [April 1964]. Signed by John Lennon (with letter of authenticity by Frank Caiazzo), the third printing. Publisher's boards with a photographic portrait of Lennon on the upper cover (issued without a dust jacket). 7 x 5 1/2 inches (18 x 14 cm); 78 pp., illustrations after Lennon's drawings, printed on white and blue paper. The upper hinge split and the text block detached at the spine but holding to the lower board, the extremities rubbed, the signature large and bright.
John Lennon's first published book, issued at the height of Beatlemania, consisting mostly of surreal and nonsensical poems, short stories and line drawings. The following year, Lennon followed up In his Own Write with A Spaniard in the Works, the only other book published in his lifetime. This volume was signed by Lennon on 23 April 1964 at Foyle's Literary Luncheon honoring the book and its author. The book is accompanied by a letter of authenticity dated 1994 from the recognized Beatles authenticator Frank Caiazzo.
