NEW YORK, NY -- Doyle held a successful auction of Latin American Art on May 11, 2022 showcasing paintings, drawings, prints and sculpture by prominent artists of the 20th century. With competitive international bidding, the sale totaled a strong $3,284,642, surpassing the pre-sale estimate of $1,916,600-2,963,100, with 84% sold by lot and 100% sold by value.

Angel Botello
The beloved Puerto Rican artist and sculptor Angel Botello was represented with a work on panel entitled Nino con Caballito that achieved $31,500, exceeding its pre-sale estimate of $18,000-22,000. Botello served as a cartographer during the Spanish Civil War, and following the war fled Spain for France, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, and eventually Puerto Rico, where he established his permanent home and gallery. Often referred to as the “Caribbean Gauguin,” Botello was revered for his vibrant depictions of island life.

Ramon Oviedo - A World Auction Record!
One of the Dominican Republic’s most important artists, Ramon Oviedo has been referred to as “the Dominican Picasso.” He draws from Expressionist and Surrealist influences, creating vividly bold abstract forms. Prisa para Que? drew determined competition and realized $21,420, many times its estimate of $5,000-7,000 and A World Auction Record for the Artist!
