Lot 142
WESTON, EDWARD (1886-1958) Edward Weston. Fiftieth Anniversary Portfolio: 1902-1952.
San Francisco: s.n, November 1951. Portfolio of all 12 gelatin silver prints, each 9 1/2 x 7 1/2 inches (238 x 188 mm) or reverse, the work from an edition of 100, photographs printed by Brett Weston under Edward Weston's supervision, each mounted and dated with the photographer's initials in pencil on the mount, each stamped in ink with the print number on the reverse of the mount; with 4 pp. text, typography by the Grabhorn Press, including the colophon, introduction by Edward Weston, and a plate list; the whole originally contained in a white cloth with flaps and black letterpress title, bound by Perry G. Davis, San Francisco, but now housed in two frames and a modern portfolio. Two of the gelatin silver prints, Charis and Cabbage Leaf, have been framed, with mild but likely restorable adhesion of the periphery of the mount to the mat. The prints are in fine condition when viewed in raking light, though the mounts are slightly warped through misstorage. With the original portfolio (also warped, quite badly but likely restorably).
Quite rare complete, as many copies have been taken apart for the original prints, a magnificent series of images.

Estimate: $60,000 - $90,000
