Van Cleef & Arpels White Gold and Diamond 'Alhambra' Necklace, France
18 kt., 10 single-sided diamond-set clovers, 120 round diamonds weighing 4.83 cts., signed VCA, no. BL 16262, with maker's mark and French assay mark, ap. 16 dwts. Length 16 inches. With signed pouch, box and VCA paperwork.

Screenwriter and Academy Award nominee ("BIG") Anne Spielberg borrowed a diamond necklace from her mother, Leah Spielberg Adler, before her first trans-Atlantic voyage on Queen Mary II. Anne, who loves gold and semi-precious stones, knew she needed something special to wear with her black velvet dress to shine among the passengers in Queens Class. She was every bit the seasoned upper-class voyager wearing her mother's necklace. When Anne attempted to return the necklace, Leah smiled and said, "it's yours now."

Born in Cincinnati, Leah studied at the local Music Conservatory and graduated from the University of Cincinnati. She was an accomplished pianist and painter. In February 1945, she married Arnold Meyer Spielberg; they had four children - Steven, Anne, Sue and Nancy. Leah married Bernie Adler in 1967. The couple eventually moved to Los Angeles, where they opened The Milky Way, a kosher dairy restaurant in Beverly Hills.

Leah Spielberg Adler wore diamond necklaces and earrings as part of her everyday life. She wore them with denim overalls or leggings and her signature white Peter Pan collar shirts. Leah wore diamonds while fishing, driving her army jeep and dazzling customers six days a week at the restaurant.

Anne shared a close relationship with her mother, affectionately calling her "Lee-Lee." Leah instilled fierce independence into each of her four children.

The Fabelmans, a semi-autobiographical film based on the Spielbergs' childhood in Arizona, is set to be released on November 23, 2022, with 4-time Academy Award Nominee Michelle Williams playing the character inspired by Leah Spielberg Adler.
