Lot Details

Lot 58
Gorham Sterling Silver Circa 70
Pattern Tea and Coffee Service
Designed by Donald Colflesh, 1960-62
Comprising a teapot, coffee pot, cream jug, covered sugar bowl and two handled tray. Height of coffee pot 11 3/4 inches; length of tray over handles 26 1/2 inches, total approximately 89 ounces, all in.

Donald Colflesh designed some of Gorham's most futuristic silverware including this tea and coffee service. For Americans engrossed in the space race with the USSR, the sleek silhouettes and sharp angular handles look to the stars and the formica in the tray made use of a new and novel material. The Circa '70 line was marketed as having a feeling of vertical motion, and the upward look to space is clearly seen in these pieces. This creative line was Gorham's most direct challenge to Scandinavian design.

Estimate: $10,000 - $15,000
