Battle Scene with a Fallen Officer, thought to represent an Incident at the Battle of Friedland
Gray ink and wash with some pale brown wash on paper
8 5/8 x 16 3/4 inches (22 x 42.5 cm)
The Battle of Friedland, a major engagement in Napoleon's war aginst the Russian Empire, took place on June 14, 1807. Fought on both sides of the Alle River in East Prussia, the battle was a decisive victory for Napoleon, as it forced Alexander I of Russia to agree to the terms of the Treaty of Tilsit.
