The Samaritan Leper Thanking Christ for Healing Him and St. Thomas Touching the Wounds of Christ: Two icons
Each inscribed indistinctly in Cyrillic charactersOil on tempera on panel
29 1/2 x 18 1/4 inches (75 x 46.3 cm) and 29 3/4 x 19 1/4 inches (75.6 X 49 cm) respectively
The story of the grateful Samaritan leper, told in Luke 17:12-19, is an unusual theme in Russian icon painting, although it was depicted by Western European artists of the late 19th century. This panel would appear to be an example of a work showing Western European influence on Russian Orthodox iconography.
