The lady shown is very likely a member of the House of Orange-Nassau, since the orange tree behind her and the orange blossoms she holds are traditional emblems of that princely and royal family.

Glue relined. Dense old varnish layer: very difficult to read through under UV light. There is a large repaired U-shaped tear in the branches of the flowering orange tree at right. Some shadows in the drapery and the contour of the sitter's upper right arm reinforced.
