LUZERNE, ANNE-CESAR, CHEVALIER DE LA Letter signed to Governor Livingston of New Jersey announcing the birth of the Dauphin, 1782.
Philadelphia: 29 June 1782. A two-page letter on a bifolium of laid paper prepared in English in a secretarial hand and signed at the end by La Luzerne, the letter addressed to Governor Livingston of New Jersey, 9 x 7 1/2 inches (23 x 19 cm). Folds, small loss to corner, removed from an album; Together with a manuscript note to Congress attributed to Francois Barbe-Marbois, 1784. Philadelphia: A single-page manuscript note in French on a bifolium of laid paper, addressed to the President of Congress, the note sending the judge's sentence in a case in Pennsylvania and mentioning La Luzerne. The letter attributed to Barbe-Marbois but not signed. Toned.

Provenance: Dr. Herbert Ernest Klingelhofer (1915-2015), collector and former President of the Manuscript Society

An interesting note from La Luzerne informing Livingston of an "order from the King to celebrate by a public entertainment the birth of the Dauphin ... The energy in which the legislature of your state have expressed their sentiments on the happy event that has crowned the wishes of his Majesty and of the whole nation, gives me some hopes that you will participate of this public demonstration of Joy..."
