The Battle-Field around Gettysburg; The New-York Times. Vol. XIV, no. 4225. New-York, Monday, April 10, 1865. Hang Out Your Banners ... Surrender of General Lee and his whole army; and The New-York Times. Vol. XIV, no. 4230. New-York, Saturday, April 15, 1865. Awful Event. President Lincoln shot by an Assassin. The Deed Done at Ford's Theater Last Night... 21 5/8 x 15 3/4 inches (55 x 40 cm); each 4 ff. Three disbound from a bound volume; one, the third, never bound. Minor marginal tears and creases, usual folds, generally in excellent condition.

The arc of the American Civil War is shown in brief by these four newspapers, each for a seminal event during the conflict: Fort Sumter, Gettysburg, the Confederate surrender, and the assassination of Lincoln. Lincoln still lived (but was insensible) at the time the final paper here went to press; he died at 7:22 am on the date of publication.
