NEW YORK, NY -- Doyle held a successful auction of Asian Works of Art on March 21, 2022. Scheduled during Asia Week New York 2022, this highly-anticipated sale presented the arts of China, Japan and elsewhere in Asia dating from the Neolithic Period through the 20th century. Showcased were porcelains, bronzes, jades, snuff bottles, pottery, scholar’s objects, furniture and paintings from prominent collections and estates. With competitive international bidding, the sale totaled a successful $2,020,508 with 100% sold by value.
Highlighting the sale was a large Chinese celadon glazed porcelain 'Dragon' charger with the Yongzheng Seal Mark and of the Period. Determined bidders drove the charger soaring over its estimate of $80,000-120,000 of achieve a stunning $390,600. The charger descended in the family of an American Civilian Educational Coordinator stationed in Japan from 1948-1951, and it was offered together with a Japanese wooden collector's box.
