NEW YORK, NY -- Doyle held a successful auction of Prints & Multiples on April 20, 2021 showcasing a wide range of works spanning the 17th century to the present day. Featured were Old Master, Modern European, American and contemporary prints and three-dimensional editions, as well as ceramics by Pablo Picasso.
With competitive bidding, the sale totaled $1,021,388, far surpassing the pre-sale estimate of $533,000-785,100, with an exceptional 97% sold by lot and 100% sold by value.
Highlighting the sale was Roy Lichtenstein's Crying Girl from 1963 that achieved $50,400, doubling its estimate of $20,000-30,000. This color offset lithograph showcases the artist's Pop art style, with motifs and techniques borrowed from comic strips and the printing industry.
