NEW YORK, NY -- Doyle held a successful auction of English & Continental Silver on May 26, 2021. Showcased were over 100 lots of silver spanning the 18th through 20th centuries featuring fine examples of English, French and Italian silver by prominent makers.
With competitive international competition, the sale totaled a strong $303,503, surpassing the pre-sale estimate of $164,100-248,800, with an exceptional 99% sold by lot and 100% sold by value.
Highlighting the sale was a set of four Dutch silver candlesticks from Amsterdam, circa 1740, that attracted attention from both sides of the Atlantic, especially from the Netherlands. Determined bidders drove the set to a stunning $34,650, many times their estimate of $6,000-8,000. Early 18th century Dutch silver is scarce at auction, and the current set has been in a private collection since the 1950s.
All prices include the Buyer's Premium.
