Philadelphia: Childs & Swaine, 1793. First edition, Philip Van Cortlandt's twice signed copy (wrapper and title). Stitched in the original wrappers, uncut and unopened as issued, housed in a navy morocco backed slipcase. 9 x 6 inches (23 x 15 cm); 102, [1] pp. The wrappers and first and last leaves dust soiled and with light spotting and faint stains, chip to signature on wrapper, small losses to wrapper on spine, other light spotting but in all a fine, unsophisticated copy in original condition.

The official account of the Genet Affair, which threatened American neutrality between France and Great Britain, This copy without the "French originals" at end which Evans states is a separate publication. Philip van Cortlandt came from a distinguished early New York family and served with distinction under Lafayette in the Revolution. At the time of this publication, he was an outgoing member of the U.S. Senate and in January 1793 began his first of eight terms in the House of Representatives.
