ADAMS, JOHN The Works of John Adams, Second President of the United States: with a Life of the Author, notes and illustrations, by his Grandson Charles Francis Adams.
Boston: Little, Brown, 1856. 10 volumes extended to 20, Extra-Illustrated with autograph material and portraits. Finely bound in later three-quarters navy morocco gilt over marbled boards by Monastery Hill, the spines tooled and lettered in gilt, marbled endpapers, the top edge gilt. 9 x 5 3/4 inches (23 x 15 cm); with half-titles and numerous inserted items. The spines a trifle faded, some offsetting, very fine overall.

A finely extra-illustrated set of The Works of John Adams, with the following inserted autograph items: three signed letters from Adams' grandson Charles Francis, the author; a document signed by Samuel Ward, 1758; the signature of Frederick North (Lord) dated 1761; a 1779 pay order signed by Francis Hopkinson; a 1787 pay order signed by Thomas Mifflin; the closing salutation and signature of Noah Webster. Also present are many portraits and prints, some in color, and facsimiles, some folding.
