Samuel R. Christie-Miller Collection.
Sotheby's, London, 7 July 1970, lot 16 part (1 of 2).
The main view on this plate is derived from etchings by Melchior Küsel after Johann Wilhelm Baur. The figures and columnar building in the foreground closely relate to those engraved in the Venetian view titled, Prospect desz Pallazz zu Muran dem Conte Widman zu Ständig, 26; while some of the architectural details appear to reference the Neapolitan view Prospect der Schiffen, und Etlicher Pallazzie zu Neapoli alli Fondamenti novi, 19. Both of these images can be found in the album, Verschiedene ansichte in Italien, Cärnthen und Friul first published by Melchior Küsel in 1679. Other print sources by Küsel for the service include; Underschidliche Prospecten Welche er in dennen Landen Italiae und dan auf seiner Heimreis, Friaul, Kdrnten, Steir, nach dem Leben gezeichnet, In das Kupfer gebracht durch Mechioren Küssell zu Augsburg (1681) and Iconographia, begreift in sich Allerhand Meerporten, Gaerten Palatia, so durch Italia und benachbarten Provincien zu sehen, von dem Auctore nach dem Leben gezeichnet, Augsburg...durch Mechoir Küssell (1682).
