Portraits of John Callender and his brother Thomas were inherited by Thomas Callender's daughter and hung in her Rhode Island home in 1879
By 1919 Miss Mary Callender of New York City owned the portrait until 1964
Thence by descent to Mrs. William Woodward, New York
Mint Museum of Art, Charlotte, NC by donation from the above (64.33), the work was deaccessioned in 1999
