Japanese Lacquer, Tortoiseshell, Ebony, Brass-Inlaid and Gilt-Metal-Mounted Cabinet on Régence Giltwood Stand
The cabinet composed of older elements, the stand early 18th century
The rectangular cabinet with panels depicting lotus flowers, trees, birds, butterflies and deer, the doors opening to 'Boulle' marquetry panels on the reverse and a later fitted interior with gilt-tooled green leather boxes with hinged fronts, the stand with later faux-marble rectangular top above a pierced scrolling frieze centered by a boss and above eagles' heads, the shell-carved cabriole legs joined by a shaped X-form platform stretcher and ending in scrolled feet. Height 62 inches (157.5 cm), width 40 inches (101.6 cm), depth 20 1/2 inches (52 cm).
