GARDNER, ALEXANDER [attrib.] (1821-1882) [Reporters and Illustrators],
circa 1864. Albumen print, image 6 x 8 5/8 inches (155 x 220 mm), ummounted, verso with "Gardner" in pencil . Strong tones, small marginal loss at left, some creasing. Framed.
Gardner's portrait of the casually-dressed, card-playing reporters and illustrators provides an interesting insight into what would today be called the press corps, though they were generally referred to as the "Bohemian Brigade."
Property from an International Corporation.
