NEW YORK, NY -- The Fine Jewelry auction held on July 29, 2020 continued the success of recent jewelry sales at Doyle, illustrating both the buoyancy of the international jewelry market and Doyle’s ability to garner exceptional prices. The auction offered a wide array of stylish designs ranging from antique to contemporary by such prestigious makers as Van Cleef & Arpels, Cartier, Verdura, Henry Dunay and Tiffany & Co.
With competitive bidding, the sale totaled a successful $735,000, surpassing its estimate of $505,600-710,250 with a strong 85% sold by lot and 85% by value.
Highlighting the selection of fine watches was a rare rose gold open face pocket watch with a ‘world time’ face by Agassiz that soared past its estimate of $4,000-6,000 to achieve a stunning $25,000. Property from the Estate of Joseph Allysious Gill, the circa 1948 pocket watch was in a remarkably well preserved state, which added to its allure. The movement was marked AXA, the U.S import code for the New York firm A. Wittnauer & Co., indicating the Swiss watch was made for the American market.
All prices include the Buyer’s Premium.
