Sale Totals $278,125 surpassing its estimate of $193,700-276,800
NEW YORK, NY -- On September 10, 2020, Doyle held the successful auction of The Art of Alexander McQueen: The Jennifer Zuiker Collection. This landmark sale comprised 50 lots of couture clothing, handbags and shoes from collections spanning 1995 through 2010. The collection was assembled by Jennifer Zuiker of California, who acquired the pieces directly from the house of McQueen.
With competitive international bidding, the sale totaled a strong $278,125 surpassing its estimate of $193,700-276,800 with an impressive 88% sold by lot and 100% by value.
Highlighting this extraordinary collection was a romantic floral print ballroom gown from the 'The Widows of Culloden' collection of Autumn-Winter 2006 that soared past its estimate of $3,000-5,000 to achieve a stunning $68,750. This collection was an homage to the widows of the Scottish Jacobites killed by the English army in 1745.
Also noteworthy was a black parachute silk cape from the Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious collection of Autumn/Winter 2002-03, that fetched $37,500. An example of this dramatic billowing cape with exaggerated bishop sleeves was included in Savage Beauty, the landmark 2011 Alexander McQueen retrospective exhibition at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
The Art of Alexander McQueen: The Jennifer Zuiker Collection provided collectors, museum curators and fashion enthusiasts with a rare opportunity to acquire iconic designs by one of the world's greatest artists of fashion.
