NEW YORK, NY -- Doyle's auction of Important Jewelry on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 saw strong competition and exceptional prices for luxurious jewelry by the world's most prestigious makers, including Van Cleef & Arpels, Cartier, David Webb and Tiffany & Co. Featured was a diamond ring of approx. 5 carats that achieved $106,250 as the sale total topped $1.3 million.
Among the highlights was a Charles Loloma Gold, Turquoise and Lapis Cuff Bangle Bracelet which sold for $53,125 -- A World Auction Record for the Maker. Charles Loloma was a highly regarded Native American artist born of a family of artisans. The Wilson Family Collection
Highlighting the sale was an exquisite 19th century natural pearl and diamond tiara, a sapphire and diamond devant-de-corsage and a diamond ring from the Wilson Family Collection. This storied family were prominent members of New York society during the Gilded Age. Through the marriages of the Wilson's five children, they became aligned with other prominent New York families, including the Astors, the Goelets and the Vanderbilts, as well as members of the English nobility. The top lot of the sale was an antique natural pearl and diamond tiara with provenance of Melissa Clementine Johnston Wilson, which soared past its estimate of $80,000-120,000 to achieve an astounding $423,000. Other highlights from the Wilson Family Collection include a Ceylon sapphire and diamond devant-de-corsage with provenance of Caroline Astor Wilson, which exceeded its estimate of $30,000-50,000 to achieve $118,750, and a diamond ring with provenance of Mrs. Orme Wilson, Jr., which achieved $28,125.
