Three-quarters green morocco by Morrell, top edge gilt, original cloth spine bound-in at end. 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches (21.5 x 14 cm); x, , 707,  pp. with 8 wood-engraved plates including the frontispiece; 3 maps on 1 folding sheet, folding plan of Salt Lake City, and (an especially interesting feature unique to this copy) two fine folding umounted albumen prints by Charles Roscoe Savage showing prospects of the city. Binding slightly faded.
Sir Richard departed from St. Joseph on August 7, 1860, and arrived in Salt Lake City on August 25, after a stay of about one month in Utah, he continued on to California, stopping briefly at Carson City and Virginia City on the way. Burton was very interested in the Mormons and wrote about them sympathetically..." Wagner-Camp. Savage was converted to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints while growing up in England, and later emigrated to the US and resided in Salt Lake City, where he had a studio, the Art Bazar.
