Publisher's cloth in dust jacket. 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches; xx, [290] pp.; folding map, color frontispiece, plates (of which 6 are colored), half-title. Some marginal tears to jacket, pale foxing to rear panel, cloth tips lightly bumped, interior fine.
"A noted explorer, naturalist and scholar, Carruthers embarked on a journey through Samarkand and into the Kara Kul. Stalking the elusive Bukhara wild sheep (Ovis ammon severtzovi), he bagged several specimens. He continued into the Hissar Mountains, noting the terrain and wildlife of the region, then into the Pamirs where he collected Ovis poli and ibex, and participated in a pheasant hunt.
