MITCHELL, MARGARET Gone with the Wind.
New York: MacMillan, 1936. First edition, signed by Mitchell on the front blank, first printing with "Set up and electrotyped. Published May 1936" on the copyright leaf, in the first issue jacket with the $3 price and the book listed on the second line of the Spring Novels list. Publisher's cloth, in dust jacket, housed in a chemise and leather-backed slipcase. 8 1/2 x 5 3/4 inches (22 x 15 cm); 1037 pp. Jacket unrestored, tiny loss to the front fold, spine with a small loss to the top, minor marginal tears and creases to panels, in all a very much better than average example, the cloth clean and quite bright.
A signed copy in an unrestored jacket of Mitchell's Civil War-era classic. When made into a film in 1939 starring Clark Gable and Vivien Liegh, Gone with the Wind was awarded eight Oscars including Best Picture.
