Lot Details

Lot 15
DAVIS, CLYDE BRION The Great American Novel.
New York: Farrar & Rinehart, [1938]. First edition, signed by the author on the front blank. Publisher's cloth in original dust jacket with $2.50 price present. 309 pp. A fine copy with only a few scratches to the upper jacket panel and a few minimal edge chips, endpapers lightly toned.
Perhaps stealing a title that would have been desirable to dozens of authors over the years, Davis' The Great American Novel regards a newspaperman who attempts to write a great book but can't find the time - a common frustration among many would be Fitzgeralds, Hemingways and Melvilles.
