Online-Only Auction of Fine Literature featuring a Collection of Rudyard Kipling on April 15, 2020
Sale Total Surpasses Estimate with and Exceptional 92% Sold by Lot and 100% by Value
NEW YORK, NY -- In a highly successful online-only auction on April 15, 2020, Doyle offered 100 lots of fine literature, including signed first editions, letters from literary figures, collector quality books in their original dust jackets, and a privately assembled collection of Rudyard Kipling.
With competitive bidding, the sale totaled $170,188, surpassing its estimate of $82,200-125,900, with an exceptional $92% sold by lot and 100% sold by value.
Highlighting the sale was a fine collection of Rudyard Kipling formed by the late Joan Twigg in conjunction with her husband Oliver Twigg, the proprietor of The Totteridge Rare Book Shop. Enthusiastically assembled over many years, Joan and Oliver drew on their many friends and colleagues in the book trade to assemble a strong private collection. Many of the books in the Twigg collection have distinguished provenance, and the sale presented an exciting opportunity to acquire Kipling rarities, all of which have been off the market for several decades.
All prices include the Buyer's Premium.
