Additional Notes & Condition Report

Glue relined. Canvas surface uneven, with several raised areas on the left side of the painting. Short tear with some loss of canvas in the water behind the tail of the whale in the center foreground. Dense old varnish layer. No restoration visible under UV light, however there are scattered spots of what may be old restoration visible in the sky. Some shadows and contourss appear to have been reinforced. There is also a pale, whitish area to the left of center that may be the residue from a spill of liquid on the surface.
