Assembled Set of Twelve Mahogany and Yewwood Windsor Armchairs
Thames Valley
Each arched backrest with pierced lancet-carved backsplat and sides, the U-shaped arm rest centering a saddle seat, raised on cabriole legs headed by pierced brackets and joined by a crinoline stretcher and ending in pad feet. Height of largest backrest 39 inches (99 cm), width 21 inches (53.3. cm), height of seat 17 1/2 inches (44.5 cm), width 22 3/4 inches (57.8 cm), depth 16 1/2 inches (41.9 cm), width over arm rests 25 1/4 inches (64.2 cm).

Designed in the 'Gothick' style popularized by Horace Walpole at Strawberry Hill, the form of the present armchairs is 'considered to be the 'best' Windsor seating furniture' by Bernard D. Cotton, The English Regional Chair, 1990;

Overall good condition and structurally sound commensurate with age and use, old marks and scratches, several seats with water stains/marks, repaired breaks to backsplats, armrests and stretchers, two with age cracks across seats, one with losses to one leg bracket
